By winning both singles titles at the recent Curro Junior ITF tennis tournaments, Philip Henning became the top-seeded junior player in South Africa.
Caylix Sport hosted the Junior ITF tennis tournaments in Stellenbosch for the fifth consecutive year, and it was the third year Curro Holdings was involved as title sponsor of the tournaments.
This year, the boy from Bloemfontein was boys’ champion, while Dakota Fordham from America won the first tournament and Denmark’s Hannah Viller Moller won the second.
Philip was seeded number one in both tournaments. “I came to Stellenbosch with the goal of winning both tournaments for sure, but actually doing it is a great feeling and I am very happy,” he said. “I played some good tennis and am happy with my form. I started to get a bit tired near the end, but luckily the body held out.”
Thanks to the points on offer at the Curro Junior ITF tournaments, Henning took over from Bertus Kruger as the number one junior player in the country. Bertus won these tournaments in 2015. Philip played in the final of last year’s first tournament.
“We are very happy with the success of the past events,” said Caylix Sport CEO, Le Roux Conradie, “and it remains a priority for Caylix Sport to support Tennis SA in the development of tennis by creating as many opportunities as possible for our top players. Access to these events, as Philip Henning has shown, is invaluable as part of the pathway and road to success for our players. A huge thank you has to go to Curro Holdings for their continued support and the value they add.”
Next up for Caylix Sport on the tennis front are three Digicall Futures tournaments, also to be hosted in Stellenbosch, starting on 18 November.
