Residents of Stellenbosch’s Ward 8 have voted in their new representative, Tamryn Kumm.
On Wednesday 23 October the Electoral Commission (IEC) – Western Cape conducted three municipal by-elections in the province. They were held in the Cape Town Metro, George and in Stellenbosch’s Ward 8.
Ward 8 includes the Stellenbosch University campus and residences, Coetzenburg and parts of Koloniesland.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) retained its seats in both Stellenbosch and the Metro while the Patriotic Alliance (PA) won and retained the seat in George.
Locally the new ward councillor is Tamryn Olivia Kumm of the Democratic Alliance, who won with 98,61% of the total votes cast, way exceeding the 85,13% cast in the 2021 Local Government Elections.
The by-elections’ voter turnout was a mere 4,25% compared to the 2021 local elections’ 33,26% turnout.
Michael Hendrickse, of the IEC Provincial Office, thanks all the registered voters who came to the voting stations to cast their vote and took the time to participate in the by-elections notwithstanding the recent National and Provincial Elections (NPE2024).
South African citizens who are not registered to vote can visit the IEC website.
