The Law Enforcement Department of Stellenbosch Municipality is now home to a newly acquired specialised vehicle as part of its fleet. Mayor Gesie van Deventer and municipal manager Geraldine Mettler recently inspected the RG12 MK2 multi-purpose armoured personnel carrier vehicle, which is designed for community protection services. Local Law Enforcement officers have undergone training to transition from drivers to proficient operators of the vehicle, which features state-of-the-art recording capabilities, capturing a 360-degree view. It is equipped with an FLIR thermal-imaging camera for operations at night. The recordings serve to ensure the safety of Law Enforcement personnel and the public, as it can be used as video evidence in civil or criminal cases. The recording software allows for real-time monitoring from an operations room or by senior Law Enforcement officials, in this way enhancing operational oversight. With the specialised vehicle, municipal Law Enforcement can also support the local police as needed.
