One red gift saves nation

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) together with the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) will host its “Red Saturday” big bleed this November.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) together with the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) will host its “Red Saturday” big bleed this month.

This campaign aims to collectively achieve at least 5 000 units of blood to help alleviate the added pressure on the blood supply countrywide over the busy festive period.

According to Thandi Mosupye, senior manager of marketing, communication and brand at the SANBS, Red Saturday forms part of the SANBS summer campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular blood donations, encourage first-time donors to make donating a lifelong practice, and educate the public on the reciprocal benefits of giving blood.

Red Saturday focuses on the ultimate Black Friday special. “By donating one unit of blood, you get to save up to three lives,” said Michelle Vermeulen, head of marketing and public relations at WCBS.

Join SANBS and the WCBS on Saturday 30 November from 09:00 to 16:00 any of the following participating malls: Long Beach Mall, Blue Route Mall, Kenilworth Centre, Vangate Mall, N1 City Mall, Tyger Valley Shopping Centre, CapeGate Shopping Centre, Liberty Promenade, Table Bay Mall, Somerset Mall, Whale Coast Mall and Langeberg Mall.

Visit the SANBS website for more information.
