Ongeziwe Tyapa (top, right) and Tyron Oliphant (inset) of Fairtree DP World Cannondale Racing participated in the men’s open category of race five of Western Province’s Slanghoek League this past Saturday (12 August). The pair took on the 80 km individual road race, both clocking respectable times, with Tyapa finishing in 10th place with a time of 3:18:49 and Oliphant’s time of 4:09:55 securing him 31st place. According to the racing team’s Chris Norton, riders have been encouraged to participate in road events this year. “It promotes cross training, builds endurance and teaches racing skills. ‘Ongs’ did brilliantly to finish in 10th position in a strong field and it’s quite clear he enjoyed himself. These races build vital experience, racing skills and endurance, and have become extremely useful in growing riders’ perseverance and grit. With quite a few more coming in the series, we are looking forward to some more fantastic results.”
