A small cream pony, since affectionately named Spirit, was spotted wandering loose through Die Boord on Tuesday (7 October). A kind local family, Marlet and Coenraad Basson along with their children Jessika and Coenraad Jnr, took him in and kept him safely by the pool and braai area in their garden until help arrived. Prof Sandra Swart from Maties Equestrian Club kindly offered Spirit a safe overnight haven and the wonderful Law Enforcement officers of Stellenbosch Municipality provided a careful escort across the R44 to the Maties stables. "A big 'thank you' to everyone who helped ensure this little adventurer's safety," Swart said. With Spirit (from left) are Jessika Basson, NS Fourie, Prof Swart, Coenraad Basson and Marlet Basson.
