In Cloetesville crime is taking place on the R44 and R304. This is on the increase. The community must refrain from riding their bicycles alone in isolated areas, police warn. It seems the perpetrators’ modus operandi is for two or three people to approach and threaten the public with firearms or knives demanding items.

Cyclists are also told to be on the lookout for criminals in Idas Valley, including the Helshoogte Road and Old Helshoogte.

“We therefore urge cyclists again not to ride alone on the these roads,” the police urge, “and to avoid having visible valuable items that perpetrators are keen to take and or grab from the person.” They request that cyclists report any and all crime as perpetrators could be linked to similar robberies elsewhere. Cyclists are being robbed on weekdays and weekends alike.

Police say locals need to engage with their local Community Policing Forum (CPF) members to help overcome and decrease crime. The urge that community involvement will help the police deliver a more effective service within Cloetesville area.
