The Paul Roos Gymnasium (PRG) Junior Soccer Academy was officially launched on Monday 31 January and Tuesday 1 February, with 32 u-11 and u-13, and 27 u-7 and u-9 players participating in the event as the first academy members.

Young soccer players from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Somerset West, Strand, Kuils River, Durbanville and Sir Lowry’s Pass are now members of the academy.

The excitement and enthusiasm on and off the field were infectious. Said newly full-time appointed head of soccer Edmund Pietersen: “The initiation of the junior academy will improve the standard of high-school soccer in the area as well as at Paul Roos. It exposes soccer players from surrounding primary schools to the PRG sports culture and philosophy and allows PRG to identify and develop these talented young players.”

Soccer practice sessions for the junior academy are scheduled for Mondays to Thursdays from 17:15 to 18:15, year-round.

A second initiative of PRG is a holiday clinic for learners aged 7 to 13 at the school on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 March. The clinic is open to non-academy soccer players and aims to inspire them to join the academy.

It further serves as an opportunity for PRG to identify and develop talented young soccer players from Stellenbosch and surrounding communities. All who attend will receive a PRG T-shirt and lunch. The academy and holiday clinic caters for boys and girls.

To join the academy or sign up for the holiday clinic, contact Pietersen on 083 536 6930 or epietersen@paulroos.co.za.
