PRG learners win big acting prizes

Learners of Paul Roos Gymnasium (PRG) scooped several awards for outstanding performance at the 2022 Filmit Festival.


Learners of Paul Roos Gymnasium (PRG) scooped several awards for outstanding performance at the 2022 Filmit Festival.

A panel of 22 industry professionals served as judges in the 2022 film competition for high school learners.

PRG was nominated in categories best documentary, best ensemble and best actor in a supporting role for the documentary Awé: an insight into language in SA and short film Hit & Mis they submitted.

It was in the acting categories that Paul Roos excelled as young actors Ian Lubbe, Jordan Cridland, Reuben de Wit, Altus van Heerden and Nelis Venter walked away with the Best Ensemble award for their acting in Hit & Mis.

The team won a cash prize of R1 000 from ClemenGold and an acting coaching session with stage and film actor Stian Bam.

Joshua Cridland walked away with the award for best actor in a supporting role. He also won a cash prize of R1 000 from ClemenGold, a coaching session with actor Deon Lotz and a cameo appearance alongside three other famous actors in a special episode of the soapie Suidooster.

The Filmit Festival is a PRG initiative aimed at career and skills development within the digital sphere, creating experiential learning opportunities for creative learners from Southern Africa as well as a platform for authentic African stories to be told and shared.

The Filmit Festival ran for the second consecutive year with partners Suidooster and ClemenGold. At the awards ceremony on Friday 4 November, a brand new and exciting partnership with the popular Cape Town arts festival Suidoosterfees was announced.
