Paul Roos Gymnasium is proud to announce its swimming team’s final results for the season, with several of the school’s swimmers excelling at galas over the last number of weeks.
Four swimmers competed in the Regional Age Group Gala in George from Tuesday 29 March to Saturday 2 April, gleaning 23 medals in total. Mathew Beetge won two gold medals and one bronze, Gerard February won two gold and two bronze, Daniel Stander won six gold and one bronze medal; and Michael Potgieter picked up five gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
The level 3 Regional Competition saw four PRG swimmers compete in George from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 March. Among them they managed to win six gold medals, nine silver and two bronze medals. The medal winners were Eathan van Helden (one gold, two silver); Joshua Hendriks (one gold, one silver, one bronze); Jacques Geyser (three silver, one bronze); and Wilan Basson (four gold, three silver).
Seven PRG swimmers participated in Senior and Junior Nationals in Gqeberha, which was the last event of the season. The swimmers reached the finals, which placed each in the top eight in their respective age groups in the country.
The junior swimmers who reached the finals are: Nicholas Malherbe (100 m and 200 m breaststroke); Stefan van Heerden (50 m freestyle); Johan van der Merwe (50 m freestyle and 100 m butterfly); Ruben van der Merwe (50 m backstroke); and Jannie Boonzaaier (participated at Junior Nationals).
Tomas Forbes was the only senior swimmer to reach a final (1 500 m freestyle), while Francois Malherbe participated at Senior Nationals.
