Filmit, a film making competition for high school learners presented by Paul Roos Gymnasium, will return bigger, better and more creative this year with the Filmit Festival.

The Filmit team this week announced it will introduce new categories and the opportunity for high school learners from neighbouring countries – Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Eswatini and Lesotho – to participate in the festival. Learners can now enter short films, documentaries, music videos, animation projects and other out-of-the-box film ideas to be considered as finalists of the second Filmit Festival.

Interested learners and teachers can subscribe to the festival’s YouTube channel, where they can watch short video clips by South African industry experts. Tips on producing, directing, screenwriting and the likes will be shared there, while additional educational videos will be uploaded throughout March to keep learners inspired and help them develop and complete their film pitches.

Mentorship forms an important component of the Filmit initiative, with last year’s winners enjoying one-on-one mentorship experiences with industry specialists in their area of interest. The festival will again create new learning opportunities for participants and winners of Filmit 2022.

All pitches for the 2022 festival must be submitted via the Filmit Festival Google Form, which will be made public by mid-March on the festival webpage, by 20:00 on Tuesday 5 April. Information on how the festival works, the rules, and the prizes is available on www.paulroos.co.za/filmit. For any questions or enquiries, participants can email filmit@paulroos.co.za.
