Pushing boundaries at Absa Cape Epic

Golden Oldies successfully took on Cape Epic.

Former middle-distance running stars Michael Meyer and Hans van der Veen completed the demanding eight-day Absa Cape Epic race, which concluded at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West on Sunday 23 March.

The event is renowned as the pinnacle of mountain-bike stage racing, combining elite competition with breathtaking scenery and a profound sense of accomplishment.

Meyer, the founder and managing director of Stillwater Sports and a resident of Stellenbosch, is the visionary behind the successful Absa Run Your City Series.

Oudtshoorn resident Van der Veen (59) ran a sub-four-minute mile (3:58) in 1985 and still holds two junior South African middle-distance records.

Originating from George and Oudtshoorn respectively, Meyer and Van der Veen share a long-standing friendship that led them to take on the Absa Cape Epic together as Absa RYC, in the Grand Masters category.
