Stellenbosch has an abundance of young football players with skills and Keano Julius hopes to be one of the many players looking to show off his skills.
The 15-year-old from Cloetesville is among the various young players who was selected by BT Football Academy Club to showcase his skill in Spain in July. Despite this wonderful opportunity the price tag that goes with the trip is R50 000 and Keano needs help getting the funds to get on the plane. The trip takes place from 6 to 16 July.
Keano, a Grade 10 learner at Cloetesville High School, has been playing soccer since he could walk and started passing the ball at the tender age of one. He was part of Spes Bona FC for six years, but these days he is proudly represents BT Football Academy.
The right wing has always had a love for the game, in part thanks to his father’s love of football and he still has an uncle playing for the Glen Eagles FC. “I like to practice with my uncle and hope to one day play on the television like my favourite footballer Cristiano Ronaldo,” Keano says.
His favourite team is Real Madrid, which means it is no surprise the local star hopes to visit his the club’s home country.
Mother Michelle says the trip would be a highlight for the teenager. “It is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity for my child to live the dream that he always talks about. He loves soccer from the bottom of his heart. He is on the field every day and his mind is always on soccer,” she says.
