Voters of Stellenbosch’s Ward 17 should take note that registration for the upcoming by-elections will take place this weekend.
Due to last week’s severe weather conditions the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) moved the registration weekend to Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July.
The local by-election is one of the three taking place on Saturday 28 August, the other two taking place in the Cape Town metropole and the Cederberg municipal area.
Voter registration for Stellenboschers will take place at the Rietenbosch Primary School and the Welgevonden Estate, main entrance, between 08:00 and 15:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
According to the Western Cape IEC the ward has 5 184 registered voters who are set to select their new council representative.
Citizens 18 years and older, as well as voters resident in the affected ward are requested to visit either of the stations to register to vote, check their registration details and status, and update their registration details if they have only recently come to reside within the ward.
To register, eligible voters must be in possession of either a green barcoded identity book, smartcard ID or a valid temporary identity certificate to be allowed to register.
Residents can find where they are registered by checking their registration status online at www.elections.org.za or alternatively, they can SMS their ID number to 32810 at a cost of R1 per SMS or WhatsApp “Hi”to our WhatsApp Chabot at 060 088 0000.
Voter registration will continue online and at the IEC local office during office hours until the voters’ roll for the by-election closes on 28 August.
