Four athletes from Rhenish Girls’ High School competed at national events during the holidays, achieving excellent results.

Tatum Ludick, Tatum Maher, Nicole Louw and Gabriella Ludick took part in the South African Schools Athletics Track and Field Championships for High Schools in Port Elizabeth from 20 to 23 March as part of the Western Cape team. Here they achieved the following results.

Tatum Maher competed in the u-19 age group and achieved an eighth position in the 100 m hurdles, a second position in the 400 m hurdles and a 2nd position in the 4 x 400 m relay. Gabriella Ludick achieved a sixth position in the 100 m, a seventh position in the 200 m and a fourth position 4 x 100 m relay in the u-19 age group. Another u-19 athlete, Nicole Louw, achieved first position in both the 800 m and 1 500 m as well as a second position in the 4 x 400 m relay.

At the South African Youth and Junior Track and Field Championships in Paarl from 28-30 March, they achieved the following results as part of the Boland team.

Tatum Ludick achieved a sixth position in the 400 m, a third position in the 4 x 100 m relay and a first position in the 4 x 400 m relay in the u-18 age group. Tatum Maher achieved a fifth position in the 100 m hurdles, a sixth position in the 400 m hurdles, a third position in the 4 x 400 m relay and a second in the 4 x 100 m relay in the u-20 age group. Nicole Louw and Gabriella Ludick also competed in the u-20 age group. Nicole achieved a first in the 1 500 m, a second in the 800 m and a third 4 x 400 m relay. Gabriella achieved a second 4 x 100 m relay.

One of the coaches from Rhenish, Reinhardt Hamman, also excelled during the holidays. Reinhardt, the current paralympic champion in the F38 class for javelin, is the throwing coach at Rhenish. He participated in the SASAPD National Championships for the physically disabled, breaking his own SA and African record. He has qualified for the World Para Athletics Championships, which take place in Dubai in November and the Paralympic Games of 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
