Mienke Kotze and Zahra Ferreira, level 4 rhythmic gymnasts of Fynbos Gymnastics and Van der Stel locals, achieved outstanding results at the South African Gym Games, hosted by Gymnastics South Africa, at the University of the Witwatersrand from Friday 29 September to Tuesday 3 October.
The event saw thousands of gymnasts from across the country compete in eight different gymnastics disciplines. Rhythmic gymnastics combines the elements of gymnastics and dance, using handheld equipment, namely ribbons, ropes, balls, hoops and clubs.
Mienke and Zahra competed in their respective age groups during the competition. After a very challenging Level 4 competition, Zahra Ferreira placed second overall in the Level 4 under-11 age group and bagged two apparatus medals, placing first for clubs and second for free dance. Mienke competed in the Level 4 under-12 age group and had one of her best competitions for the 2023 competition season.
