Get your outdoor gear ready to hit the trails near Stellenbosch, with two opportunities to get on the singletrack at Muratie wine farm this July.
The eighth Mid-Year Trail Run takes place on Sunday 23 July, as part of the Sportsmans Warehouse Trail Run series by Dirtopia with lots of beautiful green singletrack sections in the forest on Muratie wine farm’s trail network.
Trail designer Meurant Botha has two route options – both the 11 km and 6 km distances include forest trails, wine land views and vineyard sections, giving runners an outdoor adventure they won’t forget.
Dirtopia Trail Centre offers the perfect start/finish location with shower facilities and trail essentials in the shop, while runners that have pre-entered will receive a PVM energy bar/gel at registration.
There will be refreshment stations on route and at the finish line, where runners can also collect the finisher’s medal. Prizes for the winners and lucky draws include Sportsmans Warehouse vouchers with a total value of R2 000, Falke socks and Muratie’s top wines.
Intermediate to advanced mountain bikers, must make sure to enter for the Muratie Mountain Series as soon as possible, as only pre-entries are taken for this limited event that takes place on Sunday 30 July.
If you enjoy riding singletrack this one is for you as 40 km of the total 52 km route have Dirtopia’s signature trail riding. Although there will be bail-out options, you need to be fit to cover 1 550 m of climbing if you’d like to ride trails that are not normally open to the public.
This opportunity show cases Meurant Botha’s decades of trail building in this area and he always has new sections that most riders have never had their fat tyres on. Dirtopia trail management team are clearing singletrack that you do not want to miss out on.
The entry fee includes a bottle of Muratie red wine, a ‘buff’/headgear from the farm, a coffee on arrival, well stocked refreshment stations, finisher’s medal and a glass of wine when you wait for the prizegiving and lucky draw. There will also be live music by the local Dennis Brothers; shower facilities and a bike wash service. A timing tag by TrailTag is included for live results.
Ebikes have their own category too, while the first rider in the Masters (50+ age) category is rewarded with a product hamper. Overall analogue winners that have completed the full route and crosses the line in first place (male and female), can compete for cash prizes.
