The Fairtree DP World Cannondale team showcased their talent and determination at the Africa Champs XCO, held at the challenging Thaba Trails in Johannesburg. With two exceptional riders representing South Africa, Luyanda Tobigunya and Kusaselihle “Lihle” Ngidi, the team had high hopes for a successful performance. The results were beyond expectations, as Tobigunya secured a remarkable 13th place overall, while Ngidi finished 14th in the highly competitive u-23 category.
The selection of Tobigunya to represent South Africa was a tremendous honour for the Fairtree DP World Cannondale team. Known for his technical skills and unwavering determination, he proved that he was a force to be reckoned with. The decision to include Kusaselihle Ngidi, who has been enjoying an exceptional season, was an additional testament to the team’s confidence in his abilities.
Thaba Trails, notorious for its demanding course and high-altitude challenges, posed a significant test for the Stellenbosch riders. However, despite these difficulties, both Luyanda and Lihle showcased their exceptional skills, determination, and resilience.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, their manager, Chris Norton, expressed immense pride. “To have our riders achieve such incredible results and represent our team and country at the Africa Champs XCO is an accomplishment we are truly proud of. Tobigunya’s finish in the 13th position among the elite men was a remarkable achievement. His time of 1 hour, 45 minutes, and 56 seconds highlighted his exceptional speed and endurance throughout the challenging course. In the u-23 category Ngidi showcased his remarkable potential by finishing 14th with an impressive time of 1 hour, 24 minutes and 35 seconds.
The achievements of both Tobigunya and Ngidi are both a testament to their individual skills and reflection of the team’s dedication and support.
