In a display of community support and nostalgia the Thys Gemaak Group presented PC Petersen Primary with sport kits.
Former learner of the Kylemore school Wade Thys, representing the Thys Gemaak Group, extended a helping hand again to the school’s netball and rugby teams.
The initiative was not merely a philanthropic endeavour, but a reunion of sorts, as Thys reached out to his long-time friend and former schoolmate, Charleston “Charlie” Mentoor.
Fondly reminiscing about their shared history, the two recalled their joint tenure as head boy and prefect in 1997.
However, their spirited dedication to sports saw them relinquish these titles, opting instead to participate in the joy of playing alongside their peers during intervals.
Today Mentoor is the proprietor of CJ Cupboards and his commitment to his alma mater remains steadfast.
Reflecting on his own journey of growth and mentorship, Thys emphasised the profound influence of dedicated teachers like Rudolf Williams and Christo Jafthas, now retired, and Shu-aib September, current principal, whose tireless efforts shaped the people they have become.
Beyond the material donations Thys and Mentoor aspire to instil the values of dedication and passion for the game in the next generation of athletes. As the sporting equipment finds a new home at PC Petersen Primary it symbolises more than just gear; it embodies a community’s unwavering belief in the potential of its youth, Thys said.
