Cricket Boland’s T20 club competition matches take place this Saturday for the first Goldrush Boland Super League.

The new competition will see 16 of the best clubs in the Boland compete for a grand prize and a magnificent trophy. Bright clothing and the use of a pink ball will ensure the Goldrush BSL is a colourful affair.

“[Tonight] we celebrate cricket and the way we play this wonderful sport of ours in the Boland. We love cricket. We love it in our towns and valleys, and we’ve played this game in this region for more than a century and it’s only going to get better.

“When we conceptualised this tournament we wanted to reinvigorate and re-energise our cricket, so we went straight to our clubs. If we look back at all the Proteas that have come from our region they all started at one of our clubs,” James Fortuin, CEO of Cricket Boland, explained at the official launch of the tournament at Boland Park in Paarl.

He added the tournament had the potential to find the next wave of Gbets Rocks professionals and Proteas players. “We want to thank our sponsors Goldrush and especially Peter Amblianities, Dwaine Powell and Mergan Naidoo for supporting cricket the way they do.’’

The tournament will see the 16 compete in four pools in Paarl, Vredenburg, Stellenbosch and Worcester this weekend.

The quarter-finals of pools A and B will be decided at Boland Park on Thursday 21 March, Human Rights Day. The winners and runners-up for Pools C will play in the quarter-finals, also to be decided at Boland Park the next day. The semi-finals will take place on the morning of Saturday 23 March followed by the final, a night game under lights, at Boland Park on the same day.

The winner will walk away with the grand prize of R45 000, while the runner-up will receive R20 000. The best player of each round will receive a cash prize of R1 000.

Supporters looking to cheer on their team will need to pay R20 for adults, R10 for kids 12-18, while under 12s enter for free.
