As the festive season starts, the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure will continue its work on the road network.

Contractors working on road construction projects are taking a break from Friday 12 December to Monday 12 January 2026, so certain road closures will take place during this period.

This includes the Franschhoek Pass (R45/ MR191), which is open with a section where one lane of traffic can proceed when it is safe to do so; a stop-and-go is in place on the Klapmuts/ Simondium Road (MR205); as well as a stop-and-go in place on the Hemel-en-Aarde Road (MR269).

“Road maintenance and expansion projects are vital to keep our road network in shape and responding to transport needs. Motorists are advised to treat all roadworks as active construction sites, even if no construction is underway. For safety, comply with all speed reduction signs, road closure signs, and stop and go arrangements,” said Tertius Simmers, provincial minister of Infrastructure.
