  • Excellent detective work by sergeant Roger Jooste of the Stellenbosch Detectvie unit secure a successful conviction of a murder committed in Kayamandi in May 2021. The stabbing occurred at around 22:45 on 29 May 2021 at Watergang, Thubelitsa, Kayamandi while the victim was walking in the street. “Information was received that the suspect was moving between Kraaifontein and Stellenbosch, which was followed up by the detective. The suspect was arrested for murder on 10 February 2022 at 02:15 at his house during a Saps operation. Due to good investigation done by Sergeant Jooste the suspect, Phila Mayekiso, was sentenced to 25 years (whereby 10 years is suspended for 5 years) on 17 April 2023.
  • A resident from Kayamandi was recently scammed of R28 000 in a car sales deal. According to police spokesperson, Captain Nathalie Marting, the victim saw an advert for a Toyota Avanza vehicle that was for sale for R90 000 online. “The complainant sent a message on WhatsApp and the person claimed they are from Car Kings rent or buy. He told the complainant that he will need to pay a deposit of R15 000 and the monthly instalment will be R3 500. The complainant deposited a total of R28 000 but never received any vehicle and then realised that he was scammed.” A fraud case has been opened for investigation.
  • Another fraud case was reported on 30 June 15:00 at Watergang, Kayamandi. “The complainant advertised his vehicle, a Green Hyandai, for sale on Gumtree. A person named Mr Adendolff contacted the complainant and told him that he is interested in buying the vehicle. Mr Adendolff then, according to the complainant, deposited R23 000 into the complainants bank account and it reflected in his bank account. The complainant gave the vehicle to him and later that same day the complainant saw that the money was not reflecting in his account anymore. The complainant contact the person he gave the vehicle to, who told the complainant that maybe the money will reflect the Monday as it is weekend. The complainant never received any money for his vehicle,” Captain Nathalie Martin, police spokesperson said.
