Tuesday (27 May) marked a first for the Stellenbosch Municipality when the very first Junior Town Council (JTC) of municipality was sworn in. The initiative aims to gives young leaders a seat at the table, empowering them to learn about the inner workings of local government, get involved in community outreach and represent the voices of their peers. The elected leadership of the Junior Town Council is Junior Mayor: Claython Malgas (Franschhoek High School), Junior Deputy Mayor: Melvine Martin (Stellenzicht Secondary School), Speaker: Peyton Arendse (Rhenish Girls’ High School), Portfolio: Community Interaction: Riane Louw (Stellenbosch High School) and Portfolio: Schools Outreach: Kayleigh Cass (Groendal Secondary School).
