Stellenbosch FC (SFC) is on the cusp of making history as they face Sekhukhune United in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday 7 May 2023. SFC has already caused a stir by eliminating reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the previous round, and they will be looking to maintain their momentum against their opponents from Limpopo.

Stellies’ in-form striker, Iqraam Rayners, will be the man to watch, having scored six goals in the competition so far, including braces in the Round of 32 and quarter-finals. The 27-year-old is determined to continue his fine form and lead his team to the final. “We’re all excited to play in the semi-final this weekend and possibly to reach the final, but we also know we will have to be at our best to beat Sekhukhune United,” he said.

The captain of Stellenbosch FC, Deano van Rooyen, has urged the local Maroon Army to come out in force to support the team. “The fans can be the 12th man to drive us to the final and we want all of you to be part of this journey towards us making history,” he said.

Sekhukhune United, on the other hand, has also had an impressive run in the tournament, defeating lower league sides Liver Brothers and Cape Town Spurs before knocking out Chippa United. The club will provide a tough challenge for the hosts from the Winelands, and the match promises to be a thrilling encounter.

The winner of the Stellenbosch FC vs. Sekhukhune United match will face the victor of the Soweto Derby between domestic giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the final. Football fans across South Africa will be eagerly anticipating the outcome of these two semi-final clashes.
