Stellenbosch FC midfielder Devon Titus celebrates after finding the back of the net during his side’s 2-0 victory over Polokwane City at the DC on Friday evening.

Stellenbosch FC will host to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final round after recording a comfortable 2-0 victory over Polokwane City in the round of 16 at Danie Craven Stadium last Friday evening (14 February).

Stellies started brightly against the team from Limpopo and took the lead in the 12th minute, when Polokwane defender Bulelani Nikani inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, all this while attempting to clear a dangerous cross.

With Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos present, the Maroons continued to apply pressure, with their dominance rewarded just before half-time when Devin Titus finished off a well-worked move to double his side’s advantage and effectively secure the win.

The victory meant Stellenbosch advanced to the quarter-finals of the knockout competition for the second consecutive season, with the Cape Winelands team having reached the semi-final stage of the competition last year.

Steve Barker’s side will now face Kaizer Chiefs, who defeated Chippa United 3-0 in their round of 16 encounter, in the last-eight of the competition, although fixture details for the highly-anticipated encounter are yet to be confirmed.
