A total of nine taxis were impounded following an Integrated Road Safety Operation on the R44 near Jamestown conducted by the Stellenbosch Municipality on Thursday 7 July.
Seven of the taxis were impounded for operating contrary to the conditions of permit and two for operating without a valid operating licence.
Municipal Law Enforcement, Stellenbosch Traffic Special Operations Unit, Law Enforcement Rapid Response Unit, and the Stellenbosch Police Crime Prevention Unit conducted an Integrated Taxi Operation.
The main purpose of these types of special operations is to ensure the safety of passengers making use of taxi services. Mayoral Committee Member for Protection Services Councillor Rikus Badenhorst thanks all stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring road safety within the broader Stellenbosch Municipality.
