Stellenbosch police arrested three suspects in connection with housebreaking, theft and possession of an unlicensed firearm after they were found in possession of certain items that were missing from premises in Tayee Street, Jamestown. The premises had been broken into at 05:00 on Sunday 15 June. The complainant had left his home with everything in order, but he received a call from his brother informing him his house had been set alight. On returning, his neighbour handed some belongings to him that he had salvaged. Certain items were also found to have been stolen, including a hunting rifle. A tip-off led Stellenbosch detectives and Sector 2 manager to premises in Mountain View, Jamestown, where a search was conducted and police officers found a safe, an air rifle and a hunting rifle, all postively identified by the complainant as his.
