Fairtree DP World Cannondale’s dynamic duo, Luyanda Tobigunya and Kusaselihle Ngidi, teamed up once again for the Sani2c race at the weekend. After their impressive performance at the Absa Cape Epic 2023, where they were the team’s top performers, showing the decision to keep their partnership for the Sani2c race proved a wise one.

Team manager Chris Norton said: “Their goal was to improve on their eighth-place finish from the previous year, which they certainly did. Tobigunya and Ngidi’s solid performance over the three-day race saw them beat pro teams and finish 7th overall in the teams category.”

On Day 1, they finished in seventh place with a time of 03:16:38, an improvement of 10 minutes from 2022. They maintained their seventh place position on Day 2, with a time of 03:49:57, improving by 12 minutes from the previous year. Day 3 saw them finish with a time of 02:57:28, which was three minutes slower than their 2022 time, but it didn’t stop them from securing their seventh place finish overall.

In the general classification, they finished with a total time of 10:04:04, 16 minutes faster than the previous year. Individually, Tobigunya improved by two positions in the open category, finishing eighth overall, while Ngidi placed 10th overall in the u-23 category.

“The competition in the A batch was intense, with top riders, including the Cape Epic winners, vying for the top spot,” Norton said. “However, Tobigunya and Ngidi’s hard work and determination paid off, showing that they are a force to be reckoned with. It was also great to see such a big brand presence for Cannondale at the race. Once again thanks to our sponsors for making this experience possible for them, we are proud that we could improve on 2022 and keep producing excellent performances.”
