On 1 December, for the past 22 years, @Heart has held a special ceremony on a bridge over the Eerste River in honour of people who have died of HIV/Aids and those who live with the virus. Counsellors of @Heart and the Friends of @Heart share memories and inspiring stories – from the days of no antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) and certain death to present times of living healthy lives, but also of people still reluctant to approach clinics for a diagnosis and treatment. Roses are thrown into the river, with wishes of support for the wonderful work the counsellors continue to do in the community to support victims and survivors of HIV/Aids. As per tradition, the group again met early Friday morning and shared in the ceremony in Stellenbosch. Photo: Elsabe Retief
