Paul Roos Gymnasium’s u-19A rugby team will travel to the Eastern Cape to take on Grey High School for the first encounter of the 2022 Premier Interschools season this weekend.
The last time the two sides met in 2019, the Stellenbosch boys got the upper hand and claimed a 24-18 victory at home. They have not locked horns as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic over the last two years.
This time, however, PRG are fielding a relatively young side in Gqeberha, due to several injuries in their squad.
The results have been evenly distributed over the last 10 matches, since 2010, with Grey High winning four games and PRG recording six victories. Despite having the better historical stats in this match-up though, PRG will have their work cut out if they are to record a seventh win.
Paul Roos have not had a great start to their 2022 season, having lost both their matches against Affies and Helpmekaar at the Noord/Suid tournament in Pretoria. They have been hit by an alarming high number of pre-season injuries and have yet to field their first choice team.
This does, however, make PRG more dangerous heading into Saturday’s (9 April) game, where they are mathematically the underdogs as Grey High have played and won three matches, against Die Brandwag, SACS and King Edward School, to date this season.
The game will be broadcast live on SuperSport Variety 4 from 13:55.
