Stellenbosch muso Luna Paige brings a one-night-only show, Saam (All)een, to this year’s US Toyota Woordfees.
The production includes brand-new songs that toy with the theme of “aloneness” by exploring the highs and lows of being alone and the things we do to avoid being alone, and sharing inspirational songs about the value of being alone once in a while.
Paige also finds inspiration in poems by renowned poets and reworks these poems into beautiful pieces of music, and will be joined on stage by a team of exemplary musicians – Frank Freeman on guitar, Schalk Joubert on bass and drummer Jonno Sweetman. The highlight of the show promises to be the long-awaited collaboration between Paige, composer and choir arranger Franco Prinsloo, and the Zolani Youth Choir.
“I would like to inspire people with these beautiful songs and performances. I want to show that we are together in our aloneness, that we can motivate each other to use our alone time to practice staying true to ourselves, to keep growing and to learn to accept and love ourselves – so we can invite healthy and meaningful relationships into our lives,” Paige related.
“Working with these talented young people has reminded me how important music is; how it transcends perceived boundaries, how it mysteriously moves people, changes minds, perceptions and touches the hearts of people in the most profound ways.”
- Saam (All)een will be on at the Drostdy Theatre this Sunday (8 October) at 20:30. Tickets, at R185 per person, and can be bought online via Quicket.
