George Coetzee claimed his first-ever Sunshine Tour victory in the Vodacom Origins of Golf series when he successfully defended his title at De Zalze Golf Club in Stellenbosch on Saturday (6 August). He recorded scores of 61, 67 and 67 over three days of play. Coetzee claimed a two-stroke victory in the winelands, his fifth victory overall in the series, a streak that began 15 years ago when he was announced winner in his rookie season of the Sunshine Tour. It’s an achievement that now places him second on the all-time list of winners in the series after Jean Hugo, who holds 11 titles. England’s Joe Long ended second (68, 62 and 67) and Kyle Barker finished third (67, 68 and 66). This past weekend’s tournament was the opening tournament of the 2022 Vodacom Origins of Golf series, with the next event taking place in Mpumalanga at the Highland Gate Golf & Trout Estate at the end of this month.Photo: Tyrone Winfield
