High school learners of Stellenbosch Waldorf School braved the wet weather to plant giant pumpkin seeds at the new school premises at the Sustainability Institute in Lynedoch last Tuesday (3 December).
The school has announced it will move from its current premises at Spier Wine Farm after 14 years by the end of the year. Previous homes to the 32-year-old school includes Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof, Jonkershoek and Tweefontein Farm.
“We are excited to welcome a like-minded institution such as Stellenbosch Waldorf School to the Sustainability Institute, as both our organisations engage in transformative learning towards just and generative futures,” said Vanessa von der Heyde, director of the Sustainability Institute.
Dr Ray Brink, board chairperson of the Waldorf School added: “The institute’s facilities provide an opportunity for our students to also enjoy weekly hands-on educational sessions in the permaculture garden, enriching our gardening main lessons.”
The school offers independent education for children from three years old in play group, continuing through kindergarten, primary and high school.
It follows the full and dynamic Waldorf curriculum, which nurtures children into conscious, well-rounded individuals prepared for life. The matric learners conclude their journey with the National Senior Certificate.
The school is located in a unique setting, providing a nurturing environment for diverse students, guiding them on a transformative educational journey that fosters personal growth, academic competence and a deep sense of social and environmental responsibility.
