Weber Gedenk Primary School (WGP) in Jamestown is the proud recipient of R50 000 donation from the Stellenbosch Flying Club (SFC).

The donation was handed over to representatives of the WGP Governing Body by SFC committee members at a dinner hosted by the club recently.

It was attended by representatives from the Weber Gedenk Governing Body, SFC Committee Members and Ward 21 councillor Rikus Badenhorst. This donation followed a previous one of R45 000 made in 2020 to assist with school fees of indigent children at this non-fee paying school.

“One of the most important roles of a ward councillor is to establish sustainable partnerships between organisations that can benefit from each other in a ward”, said Badenhorst, adding “the relationship between the SFC and WGP gave so much more value than just hard cash.”

Parents of WGP, through the Jamestown Neighbourhood Watch, assisted the SFC at the very successful air show earlier this year as marshalls, and the SFC has adopted the WGP as its CSI partner with continuous fundraising initiatives supported by members, friends and families visiting the club.

According to Stuart Burgess, chairperson of the SFC, the club has committed itself to meaningful involvement in the local community and one of the projects it has undertaken is to continue raising funds to assist the school with funds as well as the purchase of essential equipment.
