An unusual data gathering exercise has recently taken place in the Rhenish Primary School library, with a question posed to all who enter: “If a frog told you it was a prince (or princess) would you kiss it?”
By the end of the same day, the enthusiasm for participation had grown, showing a surprising number of people still living in the hope of fantasy being alive and well.
Discussion around the point has ranged from, “Think about a proper frog, not a cute cartoon!” to “Why not? A kiss can be just a quick little kiss!” or “Why torment yourself for the rest of your life wondering what would have happened if you had done it?” as well as “It’s a talking frog – it must be magic!”
Nearly all the staff as well as children participated. Next week a class will analyse the final graph during a Maths lesson, by tallying the responses.
It looks as if the results will be evenly spread among boys and girls alike – the world of make-believe is still with us! Perhaps we’re just reluctant to entertain it.
