For our Entrepreneurial Spirit assignment in the Young Minds Programme – Class of 2025 our group took the challenge on of turning a small investment into a profit, with all proceeds going to a community project.

We decided to run a raffle, landing some seriously awesome prizes thanks to the generosity of local businesses.

This whole thing wouldn’t have been possible without these amazing businesses donating prizes: Coopmanhuijs Boutique Hotel & Spa – R1 150 voucher for a three-course dinner for two; Stellenbosch Wine Tractor – two tractor ride vouchers; The Pottery – R400 voucher; Lekker Dutch Col’Cacchio – R250 voucher; Gino’s – three R200 vouchers; and Ben’s Bubble Tea – 60 vouchers.

We also wish to extend a big “thanks” to our selling partners who allowed us to sell tickets at their venues: Java Café, De Akker and Hudsons. Without you we wouldn’t have been able to spread the word and smash our sales goals.

The Young Minds Programme – the Class of 2025 raised nearly R22 000 in total, and our group contributed around R7 000 from the raffle. All the funds went to Little Brinks, a charity that’s doing amazing work for children in need.

The raffle winners were announced on Wednesday 19 March. Seeing how much we raised made all the hard work worth it. We didn’t just sell tickets, we made a real impact, and that’s something of which to be proud.

This challenge pushed us out of our comfort zones and taught us some real-life skills – how to market, sell and hustle. Talking to people, convincing them to buy tickets and figuring out what worked (and what didn’t) was a new experience.

Suffice to say, we’ve all got a little entrepreneur in us now.

Thanks to everyone who supported us – you helped make this happen!
