South Africa recently celebrated Youth Day and continues to honour youth throughout the month of June.

Eikestadnuus found out from two learners of Rhenish Girls’ High how they believe the youth can contribute to the prosperity of Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch needs to encourage youth of a forward-thinking, conscientious mindset, who are conscious of both themselves and others.

Among the Stellenbosch schools, community groups and families, the youth need to be encouraged to become more critically creative individuals who can make a difference to other people’s everyday lives and to the surrounding environment.

We must start small. Stellenbosch’s youth must try to change their attitudes towards our country. If Stellenbosch’s youth were to collaborate, their individual talents, skills and strengths would create such a positive atmosphere. People across South Africa would benefit from our positive energy.

To live in a place where optimism beats pessimism would be fantastic. People would be inclined to make decisions based on whether or not they will affect fellow South Africans.

We as the youth of Stellenbosch can start by caring for each other and being pillars of mutual support. We need to acknowledge individuals and learn to be inclusive, no matter what.

I think to make South Africa a better place as Stellenbosch youth we should make a conscious effort to be ourselves, and grow through this.

As soon as we actually realise who we are and what we stand for, and instead of trying to be what we think is expected of us, South Africa will have a huge shift in mindset and develop the ability to embrace each other in our differences.

Through this, I truly believe we will see so much possibility for more love, passion and acceptance, for who we are and who everyone around us is.

We’ll get to a place where we can truly understand and welcome one another on a whole new level.
