Police successfully apprehended a suspect thought to be behind a highjacking in Klapmuts.
After pursuing vital information pertaining to the storage of presumed stolen property linked to truck hijackings, police officers attached to an integrated operation, recovered a consignment cigarettes and alcohol last Thursday (6 June).
This after police members responded to a hijacking in Klapmuts weeks ago. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the highjacking confirmed that the delivery vehicle was driven to an unknown location.
Investigations regarding possible escape routes and suspicious warehouses led the integrated crime combatting team to a storage facility in Burgundy Estate. Here, police discovered a huge consignment of alcohol and cigarettes. The adult man at the warehouse, a foreign national, could not provide proof of purchase and was subsequently arrested.
The 52-year-old faces a charge of possession of presumed stolen property and was expected to have already appeared in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile commended the unrelenting efforts of all police officers involved in ensuring the perpetrators are brought to book.
