Stellenbosch Municipality, through the Mayoral Youth Skills Development Fund, has invested significantly in training and skills development for local youth.

Councillor Rozette du Toit, Mayco Member for Local Economic Development and Tourism, attended the graduation ceremony of yet another group of learners who successfully completed their training through Stellemploy this week. She was joined by Councillor Ralphton Adams, Mayco Member for Youth, Sport and Culture.

Stellemploy has been a training and skills development partner of the municipality for the past seven years, focusing on artisan skills development and training for the youth of our area.

In this period more than 143 young people from our municipal area have completed training in painting, plumbing, carpentry or general building and maintenance through Stellemploy.

A total of nearly 380 young people have received accredited skills development training when factoring in training opportunities from other partners. These opportunities are all funded by the Mayoral Youth Skills Development Programme.

“As a local government, we continuously strive towards creating opportunities for the youth to get them economically active,” said Mayor Gesie van Deventer. “These accredited training opportunities have led to many previously unemployed young people now being employed. I feel very passionate about this programme, as it is a way in which the municipality can directly and practically contribute towards skills development and job creation in our area.”
